This Paper p resents an a n a l y s i s o f e x i s t i n g p a c k e t radio systems and equipment (2 Meter AFSK). Both dual and s i n g l e frequency repeater e f f i c i e n c i e s are analyzed. The r e s u l t s d e m o n s t r a t e the r e l a t i v e i n e f f i c i e n c i e s o f t h e e x i s t i n g networks. T h e s e i n e f f i c i e n c i e s r e d u c e the e f f e c t i v e capacity of a 1200 baud channel to 300-500 baud. In o rder t o c o r rec t some o f t h e s e i n e f f i c i e n c i e s a f e w s u g g e s t i o n s a r e o f f e r e d . bY t h i s a c t i v i t y c a n v a r y s i g n i f i c a n t l y . A t ransmit ter a l t e r e d s p e c i f i c a l l y f o r p a c k e t r a d i o s e r v i c e c a n c o m e o n l i n e i n s e v e r a l m i l l i s e c o n d s ( e . g . , l i k e C W b r e a k i n key ing ) .
